Low Tox cleaning

Low Tox cleaning

The number of chemicals that we allow ourselves to be exposed to on a daily basis is SCARY. I’m still on my mission to cut the number of toxic products that I purchase and use and have so far enjoyed getting on the DIY bandwagon, gradually replacing items with natural alternatives.

Hence the low-tox post!

I’ve made a couple of cleaners recently and refined a few recipes with a bit of inspiration from my SIL, Bianca and her bottle of vodka!

The first one, is a glass cleaner and I’m storing mine in an amber glass spray bottle that I purchased from Taylor Natural

Lemon and Peppermint Sparkling Glass Cleaner

Ratio of 1:1:2

Vinegar : Vodka : Water

5 drops peppermint

5 drops lemon/bergamot/wild orange – a citrus oil of your choosing.

Pour ingredients into the bottle and give it a little shake before each use.

You can also mix up the oil combinations – citrus is always good to include for cleaning.

I got this combo and slightly modified the recipe from Kim Reid 🙂

Bathroom Shower, tile and toilet cleaner

3/4 rounded cup baking soda
1/4 cup liquid castile soap
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon vinegar
10 drops Lemon essential oil

Combine the ingredients and mix to a soft paste. This can be stored for a short time but will be most effective if you make small batches regularly for when you need it.

I found this recipe on the doterra blog here and used it today to clean the toilet. No bleach! Worked a treat!!

Let me know if you give them a go 🙂  or if you have a recipe to share with me!

Send me a message if you’d like to try the lemon or peppermint oil that I use! I can pop a sample in the mail if you like! Or visit My doTERRA page to purchase.

Want fresh breath without the SLS?

Want fresh breath without the SLS?

Every wondered about the warnings on mouthwash bottles not to swallow the ingredients?

Here’s why…

  • Most conventional mouthwashes are alcohol based and have a high alcohol content.
  • There have been studies done confirming the association between this ingredient and oral cancers*
  • Some of the other common ingredients like saccharin and formaldehyde (yes. Formaldehyde!) have been indicated in eye, nose and throat irritation and as triggers for migraines.
  • Many also contain synthetic colourings

So what to use instead to bust the bacteria naturally?

Here’s a great little recipe that Belinda from Happy Health shared recently. It’s too good not to share!

You’ll need:

  • 3/4 C water
  • 2 drops doTERRA peppermint oil
  • 2 drops doTERRA spearmint oil

Place all ingredients in a jar and give them a little shake.
Swill in your mouth after brushing morning and night for minty fresh breath!

The doTERRA oils are safe to ingest so if you accidentally swallow a little bit, it’s completely fine! Despite this, the reason you want to spit this rinse out is because the aim of using the mouthwash is to kill and clear bacteria from your mouth before you go to bed and when you wake up. This prevents them taking up residence further down in your gastrointestinal tract.

An added bonus…peppermint oil also promotes optimism, and strength in the face of emotional or difficult times. Spearmint is the oil of confident speech, clarity and courage. How could they not start your day in a positive way!

If you want to give this mouthwash a try or are interested in purchasing some oils to detox your home, head to mydoterra.com/ecole or reach out via my website or Facebook page.

Have a great Sunday!

A little 3pm pick me up

Note to self. Here’s a good way to put some pep in your step!

Pop a drop of frankincense, a drop of peppermint and a drop of wild orange on your palm. Rub your hands together, inhale and then rub it on the back of your neck. Dilute with fractionated coconut oil if you have sensitive skin before topical application.

This is great for boosting energy – I’m going to use it when I’m in the midst of an arvo slump – you know the ones I mean?

Have you got any tried and true remedies for combating the 3pm energy decline, that don’t involve caffeine or sugar? I’d love to hear your suggestions below!

Some of you also know, I’ve been trying out different doTERRA essential oils over the last month, I’ve started a little business on the side and am sharing my experiences on Facebook and with anyone that is interested.

Simply because I. LOVE.THEM.

I am an affiliate and receive benefits from sharing them. I’ve said before, I wouldn’t share anything unless I’d had positive and worthwhile experiences with particular products! So please ask me if you’re interested in the business, earning residual income wherever you are in the world or simply trying some samples without any obligation to purchase. I’m happy to provide them or answer any questions you have.
