Low Tox cleaning

Low Tox cleaning

The number of chemicals that we allow ourselves to be exposed to on a daily basis is SCARY. I’m still on my mission to cut the number of toxic products that I purchase and use and have so far enjoyed getting on the DIY bandwagon, gradually replacing items with natural alternatives.

Hence the low-tox post!

I’ve made a couple of cleaners recently and refined a few recipes with a bit of inspiration from my SIL, Bianca and her bottle of vodka!

The first one, is a glass cleaner and I’m storing mine in an amber glass spray bottle that I purchased from Taylor Natural

Lemon and Peppermint Sparkling Glass Cleaner

Ratio of 1:1:2

Vinegar : Vodka : Water

5 drops peppermint

5 drops lemon/bergamot/wild orange – a citrus oil of your choosing.

Pour ingredients into the bottle and give it a little shake before each use.

You can also mix up the oil combinations – citrus is always good to include for cleaning.

I got this combo and slightly modified the recipe from Kim Reid ๐Ÿ™‚

Bathroom Shower, tile and toilet cleaner

3/4 rounded cup baking soda
1/4 cup liquid castile soap
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon vinegar
10 drops Lemon essential oil

Combine the ingredients and mix to a soft paste. This can be stored for a short time but will be most effective if you make small batches regularly for when you need it.

I found this recipe on the doterra blog hereย and used it today to clean the toilet. No bleach! Worked a treat!!

Let me know if you give them a go ๐Ÿ™‚ ย or if you have a recipe to share with me!

Lemon Bliss Balls

Lemon Bliss Balls

IMG_9968.JPG

Absolute lemony bliss.

Mum brought some of these down yesterday and it inspired me to make a batch.

I edited the recipe slightly and left out the maple syrup –ย if you have a sweet tooth…you might miss it!

2 Cups or thereabouts of almond meal

1/2 C of coconut

I Tbs of rice malt syrup

1 Tbs of Coconut oil so that they set nice and firm in the fridge

4 Tbs Almond/brazil/cashew butter – or any nut butter you have

Zest of 2 lemons

2 Tbs of lemon juice (straight off my tree!)

6 drops of lemon oil

2 Tbs Maple syrup if you need them to be sweet! I omitted this ๐Ÿ™‚

Coconut to make them pretty

The how to…

  1. Warm the nut butter, coconut oil and rice malt syrup using a pot of boiling water and a glass bowl, or the microwave.
  2. Stir to combine and add the lemon zest and lemon juice.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the almond meal and coconut (I used my food processor…lazy Sunday!).
  4. Add the wet to the dry ingredients and mix/blend.
  5. Add the lemon oil, mix/blend.
  6. Roll into balls and coat withย the extra coconut.
  7. Pop in the fridge to set.

Let me know if you try these!
